Treatment for psoriatic
arthritis
Psoriatic
arthritis is just one type of the hundreds of types of
arthritis. There are 5 types of psoriatic arthritis which are
symmetric psoriatic arthritis, asymmetric psoriatic arthritis,
distal interphalangeal predominant (DIP), spondylitis and
arthritis mutilans. Treatment for psoriatic
arthritis is directed to the symptoms not in
eliminating the disease.
Some test
will made by the doctor to rule out the other forms of
arthritis like conducting x-rays, Magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI), Rheumatoid factor (RF) and Joint fluid test. After the
diagnosis have been done, only then that a treatment
for psoriatic arthritis could begin. Early diagnosis
and treatment for psoriatic arthritis would
increase the patient’s chances of being able to treat and
manage the symptoms successfully. The symptoms would include
swelling of the joints and a form of skin disease called
psoriasis. In most cases psoriasis would be first the symptom
before the swelling of the joints will happen but there are
also cases that it would be the other way
around.
Treatment for psoriatic
arthritis
The treatment for psoriatic
arthritis symptoms would include taking in prescribed
medications to alleviate the pain for swelling of the joints
and the ease the skin conditions. All measures should be taken
to prevent bone and cartilage damage to the joints because this
would hinder the patients mobility especially if the joints
affected are in the knees and feet. Cortisone injections
can be given to the patients to help tone down the joint that
is swollen, some would mistake cortisones as pain relievers but
they are actually anti-inflammatory medications. A patient
would be relieve of the pain when given cortisone injections
because the inflammation in the joint have already subsided.
Undergoing sessions with a physical therapist is highly
recommended to ensure that the joints of the patients would
remain flexible and mobile despite the feeling of soreness and
pain at times. Ensuring that the joints are in good condition
would help in maintaining the range of the motions of the
patients.

In general,
for a patient with psoriatic arthritis, the overall health
should be a concern as well so that the body will not give in
to any complications of the disease. Having a healthy lifestyle
could help a lot in terms of managing the symptoms. A good and
well balanced diet is the key to a healthier body. Eating of
green leafy vegetables is a no brainer since green leafy
vegetables contain a lot of anti-oxidants that would prevent
the inflammation of the joints, hence effectively minimizing
the pain and discomfort of the patients. These vegetables would
also contain vitamins that could help in alleviating the skin
disease like vitamin A, C and a lot more. Try to cook healthy
as well; limit the use of oils in your cooking because trans
fat and saturated fat could be risky to one
health.
The patient
could also try more natural ways of treating the symptoms like
the use of herbal plants since these have no synthetic elements
and would therefore have no side effects even when taken over a
long period of time.
